We’ve heard it a million times. Green tea is one of the healthiest drinks you can consume because of the blend of herbs that could possibly extend life expectancy.
But a new study conducted by researchers at the Moffitt Cancer Center revealed further developments in green tea consumption’s tie to preventing prostate cancer.
The study showed that there is an active component found in decaffeinated green tea that prevented prostate cancer development in men who have premalignant lesions.
Prostate cancer has been found to be the second most common type of cancer in men, with there being an estimated 80 percent chance that men contract this type of cancer by the age of 80. The research conducted aimed to see if green tea catechins could suppress prostate cancer development in men who had high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia, or HGPIN. 100 men were recruited.
This group of 100 men was compared to a placebo group. The results didn’t show a significant difference in prostate cancer statistics, but it was found that men who drank green tea elements had a lower combined rate of prostate cancer development, according to MedicalXpress. The findings will be presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting in Chicago on June 1.
